This is easily the latest I've been up on a work-night in oh, say 6 months... That Johnny Depp, he'll get me every time! Went to see "Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest" with the roommate & a friend at the Davis Theater. Great Theater. Movie could have been better. Funny parts - Johnny is just stinking crazy. But overall, not that exciting; mostly just long. At the end of a long day of work.
What is exciting, though, is that I've started reading "Devil in the White City" and it's fabulous! I've been warned that it gets a little boring in the middle, but so far so good.
Which brings me to one reason I love this summer: reading again, for pleasure, whatever I want to read. Here are selections of what has been occupying my literary interests since the advent of a new job & new place to live:
"Plan B" by Anne Lamott
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" by Mark Haddon
"Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley
"The Da Vinci Code" & "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown
"Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris
"The Grizzly Maze" by Nick Jans
...and the non-literary things that occupy far too much time:
"24" Season 5 as it happened; Season 1 (in its entirety) on DVD, and currently onto Season 2
"The OC" Season 1 on DVD.... in about a week, no less
"Friends" every day at 6:00 on WGN
Stupid Reality Television
Sadly, this category is far too large... everything from "America's Got Talent" to "Rock Star: Supernova" currently, but mostly centered on "Survivor: Exile Island" (I have a HUGE crush on Aras!), "American Idol" (though I quit watching after Chris got voted off) and anything on TLC. Sad, I know. Rather disgusting. But I have grown to loathe new sitcoms; I will still watch the occasional episode of "Law & Order" or "CSI", and am always a sucker for "48 Hours" "20/20" and the like... but apparently it's all about "art" almost imitating life for me.
