Sushi Tuesday

I have now eaten just about the last foreign food option that Chicago had left for me: sushi and maki, with a taste of sake, and plenty of soy sauce.

Today marks one year of living at 5115 N. Western in Chicago with Mandy; to celebrate we thought we'd have a nice dinner. To make matters even better, Mandy's company decided that she is a fantastic employee and gave her a reward dinner (expensive meal with friends, paid for by the company), so our anniversary celebration became free to us!

Originally we thought it might be fun to host a bar-b-que/early Cinqo de Mayo party at our apartment, but the immense volume of homework on my plate, and our very small desire to clean the apartment either before or after such a festivity quickly nipped that one in the bud. So after a little research into unfamiliar options in near our Lincoln Square home, we decided that Tank would be the perfect place for us.

If you didn't know, though, raw food that is not supposed to be raw makes me a little squeamish - the same way that oddly-colored food that is not supposed to be oddly-colored does. Is it so bad that I like my salmon grilled and my ketchup red?

But I was brave, and got down one piece of sushi and several sections of maki before deciding I was at my limit of raw fish. I had a fabulous martini, a "Geisha," and even tried a sip of my roommate's sake. Though we had stuck to options like salmon, tuna, and a vegetarian roll, our very kind waiter congratulated me on my bravery, and encouraged me to come back for some more adventurous options like raw shrimp or octopus. Not so sure I'm ever going to be able to do that one, but thanks for the smiles!

Megan - sushi can be fantastic! Dragon rolls (which include eel) are perhaps my favorite, though spicy tuna is a good standby. We'll have to do the sushi together sometime. For your second adventure.

Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me. I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of His Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Amen.
