Anxiously Awaiting

At 8:05 this New Year's evening, having just arrived back to Chicago from Christmas-break travels, I received a phone call that I have been anxiously awaiting: my one and only sister was headed to the hospital, have been in labor for a good portion of the afternoon, to give birth to my very first nephew!

Julia and Mike (my brother-in-law) have been excitedly preparing for the arrival of Baby Gaughan (pronounced "gone"), whose name is yet a mystery to friends and family, for the past 9 months. Having just been with them to celebrate Christmas, it was obvious that Julia was ready to be a mom - she couldn't refrain from nesting and doing the "mom hover" over all her younger siblings. (She is the oldest of 6; I am third, and we have 4 brothers.)

I am terribly excited to meet the little man, and so proud of my big sister!

how exciting (and what an adorable picture of the two of you)!

i can't wait to hear the news. you're going to be such a great auntie!

Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me. I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of His Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Amen.
