Here's one for you, Becca

For about 4 months in the middle of 2007 I enjoyed a daily email conversation with my best friend, Becca, who lived in Minnesota at the time. We both sat in front of computers to do the majority of our work, all day long, and decided that there was no reason NOT to email continuously. And, before long, I decided that each morning in my first email to her, I would include a picture of myself, taken with my iMac PhotoBooth at my desk, so she would never forget what I looked like. [So amazingly self-centered...but she loved it.] Normally, I sent realistic photos... but one cannot always resist the crazy photo effects our friends at Mac built into our computers (as evidenced above). Occasionally, other things/people also made it into the daily photos. Coffee mugs were a frequent guest.

This daily routine stopped when Becca and her husband abandoned the Minnesota life for the far west coast of Washington state, and Becca no longer has a full-time job that puts her in front of a computer all day long. Now our frequent conversations also come with the cost of cell phone minutes, and larger chunks of time. But I am happy to make those "sacrifices" for her!

Today, on the eve of Thanksgiving, I am reminded of the grace and joy that this particular friend continues to pour into my life, and how much I miss our daily email conversations. I give great thanks to God for her continued friendship, even across the (many more) miles.

Who would you send a photo to every day, if you could?

Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me. I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of His Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Amen.
