Shabach Hallelujah, Barak Praise the Lord

The first time I heard the word "barak" I was dancing around a room crowded with sweaty campers in the summer of 2003 at Covenant Cedars Bible Camp in the middle of Nebraska. Our worship leader for that season, Alisa, taught us this great tune, complete with dance moves, that went something like this:

Shabach Hallelujah
Barak Praise the Lord

Shabach Hallelujah
Barak Praise the Lord

Yadah extend your hand
Todah Lift up your hands
Tehillah means to sing
Kara means to dance dance dance

Now, Barack means something totally different, and may mean our next President of the United States. That's right, Senator Barack Obama (D - Ill.), has announced he will begin the Presidential race. Accept, O Lord, my thanks and praise for all that you have done for me. I thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. Above all, I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of His Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Amen.
